The Great Forgetting

The Great Forgetting refers to the wealth of knowledge that our culture lost when we adopted our new civilized lifestyle. The knowledge that allowed indigenous cultures to survive, the knowledge that we had once also been tribal and the understanding that we were but one mere culture of thousands. All of this disappeared in a few short generations.earth culture

The Great Forgetting accounts for an enormous cultural collapse as once tribal people found themselves in a new and strange mass centralized society. New beliefs, new ways of life rushed into this cultural vaccuum to fill the void. But without being tested by natural selection over thousands of years this new culture was evolutionarily unstable. Davey Miller

We look to the brightest standouts around us to show us the path… Rootamental is a: SURFtheEARTH & ARTcreatesLIFE lifestyle. We get inspiration from renaissance multi-talented people (surfers in water and on land combined with creating provoking artwork and music). The biggest stars present in the 70’s were Richard Vanderwyk, Davey Miller, Steve Manahan and John Drury.

About Davey

daveymiller

As told by Davey, “When I was a little kid, I was an artist before I ever started surfing. I was a natural drummer and singer. When I started surfing, I just quit everything. It was like tunnel vision. From about 1969-1998 I didn’t think about anything else. All my time was spent visualizing about surfing, and the inspriations that I originally had still stick with me today: Terry Fitzgerald, Barry Kanaiaupuni, Gerry Lopez, Bruce Raymond-the legend, Michael Peterson, Reno Abellira, and especially Michael Ho. Michael in the single-fin days…he’s great now, but on a single fin…just something else. That is my whole school. I think my approach in surfing reflects that.”

Preparedness

First Understand, Disasters are Going To Happen!

Each year devastating disasters ravage our nation, leaving behind countless victims. Pre-disaster planning can have a dramatic impact on minimizing the tragedy and suffering, resulting in a more efficient and coordinated (non panicked) response, and will save lives. Now is the time to prepare for these conditions. Do not wait until it is too late. And, do not be fooled into thinking that only other people are affected. Remember Terrorist attacks, tsunamis, tornadoes, blizzards, floods, earthquakes, volcano eruptions, fires, biohazard material spills, radiological, nuclear device detonations, biological and toxic chemical accidents or attacks can happen because of a large number of factors, most beyond your control, how well you plan, prepare and response to those situations will determine how well and if you and your family will survive them.

Most of us would consider it foolish to be without insurance coverage for our homes, cars, health and lives. How much less important is a survival plan? Remember during and immediately after a major disaster, you and your family may very well be on your own for over 72 hours without any assistance from outside services. Don’t get caught unprepared, be sensible, be safe, be prepared!
